A man with a leg injury has been winched to safety after he fell 15 metres while climbing a mountain yesterday.

It’s believed the man, who was in his 20s, was climbing up the main trail of Mount Beerwah when he fell and broke his ankle.

The Sunshine Coast-based LifeFlight rescue chopper was tasked to the incident just before 1.30pm.

The helicopter winched down a Queensland Ambulance Service flight paramedic to assess the patient before he was airlifted to Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
