A pub and restaurant with “a commitment to authentic Irish hospitality” has opened at the Sunshine Coast’s largest shopping centre.

Gilhooleys now occupies a prime position by the water and pedestrian bridge at Sunshine Plaza.

The business has operated at Albert Street in the Brisbane CBD since 1994 and it expanded its reach to Maroochydore in mid-November.

Venue manager James Black said he was “thrilled” to announce the opening of the bar and eatery.

“We’re excited to bring our unique blend of Irish-Australian culture to the Sunshine Coast, a vibrant community that appreciates good food, great drinks and good craic,” he said.

He lauded the location, which is in the heart of the region.

“Sunshine Plaza’s bustling environment and the laid-back, friendly vibe of the Sunshine Coast make it the perfect setting for Gilhooleys,” he said.

“The area’s appreciation for diverse culinary experiences and quality entertainment aligns seamlessly with our brand, making it an ideal location for our newest venue.”

The 20-staff venue has a seating capacity of 280. It is open 11am to 10pm from Sunday to Thursday and 11am to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

“Gilhooleys is known for its warm, welcoming atmosphere, complete with traditional Irish decor and modern touches,” Mr Black said, before adding that patrons had already provided plenty of positive feedback.

“Our customers love the authentic Irish feel, from the cosy seating to the live music nights that really bring the spirit of Ireland to life.

“The venue is designed to be spacious and comfortable, accommodating both large groups and intimate gatherings.”

There’s a variety of food and drink on offer.

“Our menu is a celebration of both traditional Irish cuisine and contemporary favourites,” he said.

“Highlights include our signature beef and Guinness pie, traditional fish and chips, and a selection of local seafood.

“We also offer a variety of craft beers, including local brews and Irish staples like Guinness, Kilkenny and Magners, along with some great Irish whiskeys.”

Mr Black said the venue was a rarity in the region.

“What sets Gilhooleys apart is our commitment to authentic Irish hospitality,” he said.

“Whether it’s through our live music nights, our excellent service, or our meticulously crafted menu, we strive to provide an experience that’s both enjoyable and unforgettable.”

There are now two Irish pubs in the region. The other is O’Malley’s Irish Bar at Mooloolaba.
