EARLIER – Friday, October 4: Five people have been taken to hospital, including one in a critical condition, after a vehicle struck pedestrians on a busy Sunshine Coast road.

Emergency services converged on bustling Brisbane Road at Mooloolaba after the incident on Friday.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson told Sunshine Coast News that three pedestrians were hit by a vehicle after a driver suffered a medical episode.

One of the pedestrians, a man, was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a life-threatening condition.

Two other pedestrians, both men, and the two occupants of the vehicle, a man and a woman, were also taken to hospital, in stable conditions.

The crash had a significant impact on traffic leading into the start of the long weekend.

The southbound lanes of Brisbane Road, near Culbara Street, were closed.

Queensland Police urged people to avoid the area and to expect delays.
