An 11-year-old boy has died following a bus crash in Buderim this afternoon.

Preliminary inquiries indicate a bus was travelling along Jingellic Drive near Karawatha Drive about 3.45pm when it struck a bicycle.

The rider, an 11-year-old boy, sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital, where he passed away.

The driver, a man in his 60s, was not physically injured, and is assisting police with investigations.

Witnesses or anyone with relevant vision is urged to contact police. Investigations are continuing.

Traffic diversions were in place after the incident, with motorists urged to avoid the area or expect long delays.
