We’ve enjoyed another week of great conditions, which made for a pleasant ending to the school holidays.

Local fishos are happy to have their local spots back, and there’s been plenty of fish on the chew.

The weather forecast for the weekend and into next week looks pretty grim, with wet and windy conditions predicted. Expect higher tides peaking mid-week due to Wednesday’s full moon, which may affect fishing conditions.

Offshore: We’ve enjoyed another week of prime offshore conditions, with both Smithy’s Charters and Deep End Charters reporting some great catches. Spanish mackerel were abundant on the close reefs and at Barwon Banks. Also at Barwon Banks, there were reports of tuskfish and hussar. Some impressive amberjack were caught at the Hards, and there were also catches of mahi mahi and cobia.

Estuaries: The Maroochy River continues to fish well, with reports of bream and grunter at the lower end of the river. Plenty of whiting continue to be caught at the mouth, Picnic Point and along to Cotton Tree. The Cod Hole has delivered some good trevally, and flathead have been caught towards the mouth. Jewfish are showing up in good numbers, with small mullet your pick for bait. We’ve continued to hear reports of some big bull sharks getting about, so make sure you stay alert. Eudlo Creek has been the spot for flathead, with some beauties caught and released, while the Mooloolah River has also delivered some nice flathead and whiting.

The Noosa River has been a mixed bag, with a few of our customers reporting multiple donut days recently. Flathead and bream seem to be the main catch over the past week, with whiting and grunter bream also caught towards the mouth.

The past week has seen some good bream, whiting and flathead catches in the passage at Caloundra, along with sand whiting and dart off local beaches.

With more rain predicted over the coming week, mud crabs will continue to be on the move in most of our local creeks and estuaries, so it’s a great weekend to soak those pots.

Freshwater: Dynamic currents in our local freshwater creeks continue to energise bass, especially near structures like weirs and runoff areas. The most suitable lures continue to be spinnerbaits and chatterbaits, while small to medium surface lures are attracting saratoga.
