A Noosa-based celebrity chef has announced his latest restaurant venture, branching into a new cuisine after the success of his hugely popular Asian fusion restaurant.

The team behind Sum Yung Guys has said it will open a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant overlooking the Noosa River.

Pelicano Noosa will be the newest culinary endeavour for 2016 MasterChef runner-up Matt Sinclair and fellow chefs Michael Rickard and Jeremiah Jones.

In a post to social media, Mr Sinclair said the restaurant would be opening in September and include space for weddings and private events.

He said the idea for Pelicano Noosa had been in the works for 18 months and once open would offer a fun, share-style menu with Mediterranean flavours.

“There’s an incredibly special feeling that comes with claiming an iconic waterfront restaurant location in our hometown of Noosa,” the post read.

“We have Noosa’s only 40-seat private dining room … and space for wedding and events of up to 150.

“Follow the fit-out journey, you won’t recognise her in six months.”

Pelicano Noosa will be located at Noosa Marina with the space to feature “huge glass frontage” looking out across the Noosa River.

It will be located in a space the has previously been home to restaurants Pier 11, Rump House and Trios on the River.

Noosa Marina general manager Warren Smith said he was excited to welcome three renowned chefs of Sum Young Guys to the precinct.

“Having lived through many previous iterations of this venue over the past 23 years, it is great to see this venue will again come alive with energy, enthusiasm and culinary delights,” Mr Smith said.

“This venue has the best north facing outlook of the Noosa River region and deserves some of the best operators Noosa has to offer.

“September can’t come soon enough.

“Pelicano will be a great a compliment to the successful Lucio’s Italian, the Café Vin-Cino, Harbour fish & chips and The Marina Bar, offering a wide choice of dining options.”

Noosa Marina is located at Tewantin and features restaurants, retail stores and weekly Sunday markets.

Sum Yung Guys opened at Sunshine Beach in 2017 before moving to a larger venue in Noosaville in 2021.

Sum Yung Guys has been contacted for further comment on Pelicano Noosa.
