A new shark-themed playground featuring a six-metre-tall climbing structure has opened in an ever-expanding Coast suburb.
Stockland opened Shark Park on Great Keppel Way in the suburb of Banya on Sunday, celebrating by hosting a free event for locals.
The design celebrates the grey nurse shark and features the six-metre-tall shark cage playground dome, a “Shark Alley” rope bridge crossing and “Sandy Cove”, where children can dig for starfish and shell fossils. The park also has swings, fitness equipment and picnic shelters.

Playground designer Tobias Volbert, from Urban Play, said the new play space aimed to cater to people of all ages and abilities.
“The unique narrative woven into the design encourages the imagination to take centre stage. It’s not just a play area, it’s a storytelling space full of adventure,” he said.
“From the feeding frenzy, the shark-infested waters to the immersive shark cage climbing dome, this play space will provide a thrilling play experience for children of all ages.”

Stockland Aura senior development manager Genaea Keith said residents and local families were excited to have another park in the community.
“We know through our recent Stockland liveability survey that the proximity and quality of local parks and green open space are important to our residents in Aura,” she said.
“Liveable spaces, like parks and playgrounds, contribute to the social fabric of a community, providing areas where residents can engage in recreational activities, socialise and build a sense of belonging, connection and wellbeing.
“At Aura, there is a park within 400 metres of every home. The Aura park trail features a network of parks connected by the cycling veloway and walking paths, making them accessible for all.”

The park is the 22nd addition to the selection of Aura parks and playgrounds, following the recent opening of Space Park, on McKinlay Crescent, Nirimba, and Whale Park, on the corner of Lady Elliot Street and Great Keppel Way, Banya.
Across the Sunshine Coast, Stockland has delivered more than 50 parks and playgrounds, dog parks, walkable waterfronts and sports parks. For more information click here.
