A RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew has winched a man from the deck of a bulk carrier about 40 nautical miles east of Noosa.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority tasked the Bundaberg-based rescue chopper about 4pm yesterday to the ship’s location.

A member of the ship’s crew was reportedly suffering from a medical condition.

The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue critical care doctor and Queensland Ambulance Service flight paramedic were separately winched down to the vessel to provide treatment and secure the patient into a stretcher.

The medical team and patient were then winched safely back into the helicopter.

The patient, aged in his 60s, was airlifted to Sunshine Coast University Hospital for further treatment.
