Two people are in custody, including a Sunshine Coast man, after a 34-year-old man was found dead on a road in central Queensland with a gunshot wound to the neck.

Local Anuisha Bone was found at Norman Gardens outside Rockhampton before 4am last Friday.

Police on Thursday said two men, aged 25 and 33, were in custody and assisting detectives.

They have both been charged with a number of offences but not homicide, Detective Acting Inspector Luke Peachey said.

He described both as a “person of interest”.

The 25-year-old was taken into custody in Rockhampton last weekend.

The 33-year-old Sunshine Coast man was arrested in Hervey Bay on Wednesday.

“We are keeping a very open mind. We’ve got two people currently in custody … that’s not to say that other persons haven’t been involved,” Det Peachey told reporters.

“We believe we are progressing this investigation in the right direction.”

Two vehicles have also been seized – a white 2021 Toyota Kluger and a white 2015 Hyundai Tucson.

One of the men arrested was in one of the vehicles at the time and police said investigations indicated those involved in the fatal shooting may have been travelling in the two cars.

Anyone who saw the vehicles in the local area at the time should contact police.

Locals have also been encouraged to review their CCTV for vision of the two cars.

“It’s about piecing together everything so that we can give the poor family of Anuisha Bone some…rest, that they understand that this investigation is progressing,” Det Peachey said.

“We will leave no stone unturned. I am very confident we will get the people responsible for this.”

Witnesses said they heard what they believed were multiple gunshots and more than one car leaving at speed before Mr Bone’s body was found.
