A young couple striving to change the way people think about takeaway is slowly roasting its way to success, one ready-to-eat feast at a time.

Think Greek-inspired slow-roasted lamb and crispy, twice-cooked potatoes.

In 2021 Ben and Katrina Dickens decided to create something new in the convenience food space on the Sunshine Coast.

With the motto ‘slow cooked, served fast’, the Urban Lamb concept came to life, operating out of a shared commercial kitchen in Noosaville.

Six months later the business expanded and the Dickens opened their first bricks-and-mortar store at Buddina.

Ms Dickens said Urban Lamb provided customers with a quality food option that was full of flavour and convenience.

“We identified a gap in the market for a high-end takeaway food experience that feels and tastes like home cooking that can be ordered at your fingertips,” she told Sunshine Coast News.

“Our menu offering involves a small range of items, inspired by Greek flavours.

“Each and every one of our menu items is made and served with love and care.

“We are passionate about serving our customers a delicious product, and we are humbled when our customers tell us how much they love our food as much as we do.”

With a variety of bundles on offer, including the Ultimate Feast serving six people, Ms Dickens said one of the customer favourites was the Lamb Box, which was a perfect meal option for one person.

“The Lamb Box contains a bit of everything on our menu, including our signature lamb and potatoes, tzatziki dip and urban salad – the perfect combination of flavours,” she said.

The signature lamb is seasoned and brined overnight, before being cooked in a homemade braise for eight hours. Once cooked the juices are reduced and glazed over the lamb.

The twice-cooked potatoes are steamed, seasoned with rosemary and olive oil, before being baked in the oven.

Urban Lamb also offers catering for birthdays, weddings, parties or work functions, and can be found on Uber Eats.

Ms Dickens said there were “exciting” plans in the pipeline for Urban Lamb.

“We have a goal to further expand the business and open additional shops around the Sunshine Coast in the future and to hire more staff,” she said.

“We also have plans on adding some additional items to our menu, however with a view to continue to keep it simple and use our existing flavours in different ways to provide a vast range of offerings.”
