A popular brewery has submitted plans to establish operations at a new site in a high-profile location in a neighbouring suburb.
Ten Toes has lodged a development application with Sunshine Coast Council to establish medium-impact industry in the form of a micro-brewery on the corner of Pittards, Jones and Maroochydore roads in North Buderim.
The site was formerly the North Buderim IGA, which closed in September last year amid increased competition from supermarket giant Coles after it opened across Jones Road 18 months earlier.

The town planning report submitted to council on behalf of Ten Toes by Adams and Sparkes says the proposal would enable the brewer to “move production, storage and retail sales operations to the site”.
Ten Toes has operated from premises on Sugar Road, Maroochydore, since 2015.
The report says a pre-lodgement meeting was held with council officers in December, with the application given in-principle support “provided that the volume of alcohol produced onsite remain consistent with a ‘micro-brewery’ use”.
This would mean less than 200 tonnes of beer is produced or bottled onsite per year.
The existing building has a gross floor area of 1396sqm overall, with the majority of this to be used as a food and drink outlet. The micro-brewery would comprise 533sqm on the ground floor.
The report says: “All industrial activities, including brewing, bottling/packaging and deliveries/collection will occur within the hours of 6am to 6pm weekdays, noting that fermentation occurs 24 hours a day within the holding tanks, however, generates no external impacts.
“Outside these hours, the remainder of the tenancy will continue to be used as a food and drink outlet with some ancillary administrative functions.
“The associated food and drink outlet will enable customers to taste the variety of products manufactured onsite within the brewery and undertake a tour of the brewery premises by arrangement.”
There are no plans to carry out any external building works, or to extend the existing building.
A separate DA has been lodged with council for the extension of the upper-level mezzanine floor in the building.
The former IGA building is within The Hub North Buderim shopping centre, which covers a total 6982sqm at 1-5 Pittards Road.
The report says there is an economic need for the proposal to support the other businesses in The Hub, which have suffered a loss of revenue since the closure of the IGA. These businesses include retail shops, food and drink outlets, a gym and real estate agent office.
The application for a material change of use was submitted to council on April 28.
Sunshine Coast News attempted to contact Ten Toes for comment but did not receive a reply.
