Three men have been plucked from an upended boat well offshore.

The men were winched to safety by the Sunshine Coast-based LifeFlight aeromedical crew off Noosa Heads on Tuesday.

The rescue chopper was tasked by Retrieval Services Queensland and Australian Maritime Safety Authority at about 8.10am

The crew located an 8-metre vessel about 9km off the coastline, where an officer was winched down to retrieve the men.

One of the men was treated by the critical care LifeFlight doctor and Queensland Ambulance Service flight paramedic for a head abrasion.

The men, aged in their 50s and 60s, were airlifted to Sunshine Coast University Hospital for further treatment.
