The search for a swimmer reported missing at Happy Valley has been called off after it was determined to be a false alarm.

A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said no one was considered missing.

“At this stage the search won’t be resuming unless there is a person matching the description reported missing or there is a sighting,” they said.

Police and emergency services were called to the beach about 2pm on Wednesday following reports a swimmer had gone missing in the water.

Water Police, a rescue helicopter, jet skis and foot patrols worked alongside surf lifesavers in an effort to locate the swimmer.

Queensland Police said the missing person was believed to be a man in his 60s with a bald head.
