The University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC) is addressing Australia’s demand for highly skilled engineers by launching an accelerated pathway into its Master of Engineering program.

The new program will give graduates internationally recognised qualifications and more job opportunities in a faster timeframe.

“There has never been a better time to be an engineer,” Dean of Science, Technology and Engineering, Professor Aman Oo said.

“UniSC’s current Bachelor of Engineering graduate employability is at 100 percent — the highest in the country.”

“This new Bachelor of Engineering/Master of Engineering can potentially open doors to larger and more complex projects and accelerate the earnings potential of a graduate by more than six figures, particularly in project management roles.

“There’s already strong industry support for this program and we’re expecting strong student interest.”

He said the new “vertical” degree structure would allow students to transition seamlessly from a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) into a Master with just one additional year of study (a total of five years over the full degree).

Professor Oo said Australia’s infrastructure boom was driving demand across all sectors, with UniSC students well positioned to capitalise on opportunities.

“Right now, there is a shortfall of 10,000 electrical engineers in the energy sector. In civil and construction, we have the Brisbane 2032 Olympics infrastructure projects coming up, plus billions of dollars earmarked for major transport and construction projects like The Wave rail right here in our own backyard,” he said.

“And that’s before we even consider the needs of local industry.

“Our students are extremely well-placed to capitalise on these opportunities thanks to our project-based learning approach, collaborating with partners including the Department of Transport and Main Roads, Veolia, Unitywater and Microsoft.”

Applications are now open for eligible students to apply for study in Trimester 1, 2026.

Students currently enrolled in UniSC’s four-year Bachelor of Engineering programs will be eligible to apply for the Master’s after completing their undergraduate degree.
