A well-known chicken shop is about to open in the Sunshine Coast’s largest shopping centre.

Nando’s will open at Sunshine Plaza on Tuesday, the brand’s 11th new restaurant in Australia this year.

“Sunshine Plaza is a natural next step for Nando’s in Queensland,” Nando’s regional general manager Nathan Wyndham said.

“It’s a high-energy precinct with a beautiful outlook and a community that already loves our flame-grilled peri-peri chicken.

“We’re thrilled to welcome 18 new team members and fire up another stunning restaurant for the Coast.”

A media release said the vibrant riverside space – which is between the food court and bridge next to Fishbowl – would blend “design, culture and community”.

The design has the chain’s “signature southern Africa cues”.

“Nando’s Sunshine Plaza puts its flagship experience front and centre, with bottomless beverages for unbeatable value, premium drinks and frozen cocktails that lift the dining experience, and the iconic peri-peri sauce station, a help-yourself display of generosity,” it said.

“The restaurant features an outdoor area for customers to enjoy waterfront views as they dine, while the inside is brought to life with Nando’s signature southern Africa cues: original artwork pieces, custom-designed banquette and booth seating, pendant lighting and authentic African tiles.”

The restaurant will welcome guests on Tuesday with a launch offer of a free quarter chicken and chips for the first 100 customers.

Nando’s was founded in South Africa in 1987 and now has outlets in more than 20 countries, including about 150 in Australia.

It is the second Nando’s on the Sunshine Coast, joining the outlet on Aerodrome Road, Maroochydore.

The new store will be open from 10am-10pm.
