A beachfront coffee shop that has operated for 10 years is set to close next month, despite a petition being launched in a bid to save it.
Hustle and Flow Cafe, under the Moolooaba Surf Life Saving Club, has been informed by the club its tenure will end on December 1.
A petition titled ‘Keep Hustle and Flow Cafe operating at Mooloolaba foreshore’ has been on display at the cafe, requesting help to find a new premises and to allow it to continue through the summer holiday period.
Moolooaba SLSC president Trent Robinson confirmed the coffee shop would be closing due to “operational requirements”.
It is understood the coffee shop leases the premises directly from the surf club.
Work on the Mooloolaba Foreshore Revitalisation Project is ongoing nearby, with the coastal pathway to the north of the surf club and coffee shop currently blocked by a safety fence.
The petition – which does not identify who created it – says the cafe has been a popular meeting spot over the past 10 years.
“Hustle and Flow Cafe has operated a successful and popular business in a small space at the rear of the clubhouse for 10 years and serves hundreds of customers between 5am to 1pm seven days per week,” it states.
“But it is more than a cafe, it is a social hub and a vital connection point for locals and visitors all year round and the cafe owners have kept the price of their coffee as low as possible to reflect this.
“People of all ages, including many older members of the community, are motivated to remain active by the opportunity to grab a coffee and enjoy a chat at the end of a swim, stroll, run, beach training session or board or surf ski paddle. Lifelong friendships are formed as locals and holidaymakers connect over a cuppa at our beautiful Mooloolaba foreshore.”

The petition goes on to ask that the cafe be given assistance to remain open.
“We the undersigned respectfully request that Mooloolaba Surf Life Saving Club and Sunshine Coast Council to work together to find an ongoing opportunity for Hustle and Flow Cafe to continue to operate a service that is vital to the social lives of so many members of the Sunshine Coast community,” it says.
“Until this is arranged, we request that Hustle and Flow Cafe continue to operate from the lifesaving club over the summer holiday period, which ends in January 2026.”
Mr Robinson said it was a decision by the Mooloolaba SLSC committee to close the coffee shop to free up space for operational requirements.
“We really need that space in case someone gets injured,” he said.
He said there was no opportunity for the coffee shop to relocate within the surf club, or to extend its tenure into January as requested in the petition.
The operator of Hustle and Flow Cafe was approached for comment.
