A group of Coast retirees have celebrated 13 years of walking together for health, fitness and friendship.

The Walkie Talkies have been strolling the halls of Caloundra Shopping Centre since 2012.

Group member Lauretta Shaw said new and old members came together for a celebration that included the group’s inaugural member.

“Our walking group means the world to us,” Ms Shaw said.

“It keeps us active, connected and laughing every week.”

To mark the occasion, Caloundra Shopping Centre treated the Walkie Talkies to coffee, donuts and a gift card to thank them for “brightening the halls of the shopping centre”.

“It was such a lovely surprise to be recognised today,” Ms Shaw said.

“We’re so grateful to Caloundra Shopping Centre for celebrating us.”

Centre manager Jocelyn Sakeson said the group was special to the local centre.

“The Walkie Talkies have become a staple of our centre, taking advantage of the safe, flat and airconditioned centre as they exercise.

“Caloundra Shopping Centre was proud to celebrate this milestone and give back to these locals who have been brightening the halls of the shopping centre for years.”
