Planning is about to move to the next stage for a multimillion-dollar intersection upgrade that is expected to improve safety, efficiency and capacity.
The second round of site investigations will this month start at the Landsborough Maleny-Montville Road junction at Maleny.
Led by the Department of Transport and Main Roads, the studies will include geotechnical and pavement assessments that will help inform and refine the upgrade options.
The state government committed $7 million to improve the intersection ahead of the election last year.
The upgrade aims to improve safety and reduce peak-hour congestion.

Member for Glass House Andrew Powell said roadworks wouldn’t be rushed and site investigations would be critical.
“I know everyone’s keen for these upgrades but we need to get the planning right: they must improve safety, cut congestion and reflect community expectations,” he said.
“These investigations are crucial to understand local traffic challenges and find a way to enhance connectivity for our hinterland communities.
“This is only step one of our full package commitment to upgrade the intersection of Landsborough-Maleny and Maleny-Montville roads. But it’s an important step, so please bear with me to make sure we get this right for you.”

Investigations will start from Monday, October 27, weather and conditions permitting. They will be progressively during a two-week period. Motorists may experience minor delays when diversions or temporary lane closures are in place. TMR will keep the community updated as the project progresses.
