An American-style restaurant that has given “so many memories, laughs and friendships” is preparing to close its doors after seven years.

Ninth Street, known for its “bigger is better” menu and Instagram-worthy creations, has announced it will serve its final meals at The Wharf Mooloolaba on Saturday, October 11.

The decision comes as the venue’s lease nears its end, with management of The Wharf having “different plans” for the space.

In August it was revealed The Wharf was on the market with a reported price of more than $80 million.

In a heartfelt social media message to customers, Ninth Street described the closure as “bittersweet”, saying it was grateful for the support that had kept it going through challenges such as the pandemic.

“We say thank you from the bottom of our hearts,” it posted.

Ninth Street is at The Wharf Mooloolaba.

“We’ve got all the emotions happening right now and we’re super sad sacks about the news but our lease is almost up and The Wharf had different plans for our venue so it’s time for us to leave.”

Ninth Street opened in 2018 as a spin-off to The Nines Emporium at the Sunshine Coast Home centre in Maroochydore, quickly becoming known for its towering burgers, loaded hotdogs and decadent desserts.

The post said operating the eatery had been an “emotional Gravitron ride”, in reference to the former Dreamworld attraction.

“The past seven years has been a whirlwind of highs, challenges and plenty of laughs,” it said.

“We hit the ground running for about a year, then the pandemic hit hard. But even though we were challenged, we managed to stay alive for the seven years, employ a bunch of legends, create some crazy meals and desserts, pay our bills, met some superb customers as well as going viral a few times.

“We have to take those wins wherever we can, right?”

Some Ninth Street staff will continue working with sister venues The Nines and Flinders Lane in Maroochydore.

“Ninth Street has given us so many memories, laughs and friendships – and it’s all thanks to you: our staff and customers,” it posted.

To mark its final weeks, Ninth Street is bringing back popular items from past menus, with customers invited to vote for their favourites online.

“We’d love for you to come by, eat one more burger or hotdog, one more beer or cocktail, and one more smile with us before we say goodbye,” it posted.

The restaurant signed off with a message to its staff and loyal customers.

“Thank you to the wonderful staff (current and old) – you’ve been incredible and truly appreciate you all,” it posted.

“And to our customers regulars and new for being part of our journey – you’ve all made these years something we’ll never forget.
