Sunshine Coast Council has unveiled a new heritage walk that showcases a town’s history, including its First Nations significance and timber heritage.

The Landsborough Heritage Walk is a self-guided trail that features storytelling, public art and digital experiences.

The walk lays at the heart of the revitalised Cribb Street, which council delivered in partnership with the community last year.

It honours the town’s layered history, from its importance as a First Nations meeting place to its role in the birth of local government on the Sunshine Coast and its legacy as a thriving lumber location.

Councillor Jenny Broderick said the trail offered a meaningful way to connect with the past.

“It’s more than just a walk: it’s a way to hear the stories that shaped this town,” she said.

Cribb Street, which underwent a makeover last year, is a key part of the trail.

“Scan QR codes along the trail to unlock audio stories and reflections, from traditional cultural practices to tales of the Landsborough Pub being rolled into place by bullock wagon.

“It’s a tribute to the people who shaped this town and a gift to future generations.”

The walk features interpretive signage, custom-designed street furniture and art elements that reflect the area’s heritage.

Visitors can explore at their own pace and discover personal recollections shared by locals.

Local resident Diana Michaels, who supported the project alongside council and the Landsborough Museum, said the project helped preserve and share the town’s identity.

“We can learn so much through knowing the history of a place and by listening to people’s stories,” she said.

“This deepens our connection to place and also gives visitors a reason to come, see and learn.

Local Diana Michaels and Cr Jenny Broderick scan a QR code for information on the heritage trail.

“Landsborough is the Sunshine Coast’s Historic Town and it’s why I became involved in the 2019 Landsborough Placemaking, working on the Cribb Street Heritage Walk and interviewing long term locals for the Stories of Landsborough.

“I gained so much personal insight, appreciation and enjoyment from the experience and I’m so happy to see this all come to fruition.”

Cr Broderick encouraged people to explore the free trail, which includes the Landsborough Museum.

“As the Sunshine Coast continues to grow, projects like the Cribb Street streetscape and Landsborough Heritage Walk ensure that the stories of our smaller towns are preserved and celebrated,” she said.

“They help connect us to our roots and remind us of the strength and character of our community.”

The walk is supported by the Sunshine Coast Arts and Heritage Levy.
