A longstanding landscaping centre, first established in 1975, is closing a 22-year chapter as its owners hand over the reins to a Queensland company.

In 2003, the Johnson family purchased what was then the Big Garden Centre and transformed it into the Buderim Landscape Centre.

Following years of dedication and growth to the business, owner Tony Johnson has sold up to retire.

Located at 168 Crosby Hill Road, the centre has now transformed into Nuway Landscape Supplies Pavers and Walls Buderim, following the sale to the Brisbane-based company.

Mr Johnson reflected on his time at the helm and thanked his staff and customers for their continued support and loyalty.

“The staff are who we will really miss,” he said.

Marnie Hirst and Tony Johnson have sold Buderim Garden Centre.

“It takes time to develop a good team who are not only capable but respectful of each other.

“It’s the best team we’ve ever had and I couldn’t be more proud of them. Nuway intend keeping all our staff.

“Thanks also to all our wonderful customers and the loyal account customers who have supported our business over the decades.

“The Sunshine Coast is an amazing place on so many levels.”

Buderim Landscape Centre was first established in 1975 as Big Garden Centre.

Mr Johnson’s partner Marnie Hirst, who has been the centre’s administration and marketing manager, will also be leaving the business

“I’d like to make special mention of my partner Marnie. Marnie has done an incredible job and I’m very fortunate to have had her full support,” he said.

Mr Johnson said the future of the centre was in good hands thanks to the experience of the buyers, who took over on July 24.

“Nuway have been doing this sort of thing for a long time and have an extensive range of products to complement what we currently have,” he said.

“They have 10 operations throughout the greater Brisbane area and the Gold Coast so they know what they’re doing.

“I’m looking forward to seeing this business progress to the next level. I’m sure customers will be excited to see the changes.”
