A dual Olympic gold medallist and former world record holder has thrown his support behind a group committed to bringing Games-related benefits to the Sunshine Coast.
Duncan Armstrong, who won the 200m and 400m freestyle at Seoul in 1988, has been named patron of Sunshine Coast 2032.
New board members Mal Brough, Sonia Heath and Paul Lowick have also been welcomed.
A Sunshine Coast 2032 media release stated Mr Armstrong was set to build on his foundational contribution as a board member and deputy chair.
“A national hero, Duncan brings decades of experience in elite sport and media,” it stated.
“His passion for community and sport makes him a powerful ambassador for the region’s Olympic journey.”
Sunshine Coast 2032 chair Roz White was delighted to welcome Mr Armstrong as patron.
“Duncan’s legacy and leadership are a perfect match for our vision and this role recognises his continued commitment to championing our region as we build towards 2032,” she said.
Mr Armstrong said the region, which will host multiple events, was special to him.
“The Sunshine Coast has always been close to my heart. I’m honoured to take on this role and help inspire the next generation as we prepare for one of the biggest opportunities in our region’s history,” he said.

Mr Brough was appointed to the deputy chair role.
