A woman has been fined after police spotted her riding a motorbike with a dog behind the handlebars.
Officers from Sunshine Coast Highway Patrol were conducting patrols along busy Alexandra Parade on May 17, at about 2pm, when they intercepted a motorbike rider with a dog strapped to her chest.
A 35-year-old Maroochydore woman was issued a $376 traffic infringement notice for ride with animal between arms.
Sunshine Coast Highway Patrol Senior Sergeant Shane Panoho said drivers were required to have proper control of their vehicle and ensure they have a clear view of the road at all times.
“We know how attached some people are to their pets but its best to apply a paws-off approach when it comes to our roads,” he said.
“The rider had purchased the harness online and did not think through the safety implications, particularly if the dog was to react to other road users, pedestrians or animals.

“This could place the rider and her pooch in harm’s way or put other motorists at risk.
“Although the dog seemed to be comfortable on the bike, we urge riders to practice safe and responsible behaviour on our roads.”
