The future of a hinterland club that was facing imminent closure has been secured following an “overwhelming” vote to transfer its ownership to a nearby organisation.

Since revealing its ongoing financial struggles, Club Glass House made a last-ditch effort to save the venue, seeking a lifeline from the well-established Caboolture Sports Club.

Club Glass House president Gary Gray issued a letter to members earlier this month outlining the club had “reached a critical point” and required immediate financial assistance.

During an annual general meeting last week, Club Glass House members voted for a transfer of ownership to Caboolture Sports Club.

The vote to “approve the management committee finalising and entering into an agreement” with Caboolture Sports Club passed with 232 in favour of the motion.

It follows changes in state government legislation earlier this year to assist larger clubs in acquiring smaller clubs that have experienced financial problems.

Club Glass House has a 50-year history.

Mr Gray thanked members for understanding the challenges at the club and voting for its future.

“This is a very pleasing outcome because it ensures a club that has 50 years of history in this area will continue into the future,” Mr Gray said.

“We’re just delighted that the club now has a guaranteed future. And we’re very grateful to members who took the time to understand the situation and to vote on their preferred outcome.”

Caboolture Sports Club Group CEO Craig Thomas said the organisation was pleased to ensure the club remained part of the local community.

“We thank the members of Club Glass House for placing their trust in Caboolture Sports Club,” Mr Thomas said.

“We are very excited about the future for Club Glass House. We will work with members to ensure the club continues to support the community and remains a meeting point for many.”

Club Glass House will be the fourth licensed venue operated by Caboolture Sports Club, which is made up of six local sporting groups – cricket, softball, touch football, soccer, rugby union and dog obedience – that collectively formed a single organisation more than 30 years ago to advance their sporting interests.

Caboolture Sports Club will take over ownership of Club Glass house.

The Caboolture Sports Club donates about $2 million each year in cash and in-kind support back to the community.

Under the agreement with Club Glass House, Caboolture Sports Club has will assume liability for all current debts, with all current staff to retain their positions.

The adjoining Glass House Country Bowls Club will be provided with a long-term licence to remain at the club and to occupy the bowls rooms, with Caboolture Sports Club to maintain and repair the bowling green.

Caboolture Sports Club will also invest in immediate improvements to Club Glass House including sealing the car park, improving lighting and providing new carpet and furniture.
