A vacant fish and chip shop is up for lease following a failed attempt to transform the site into a bakery.

Trading as a takeaway outlet since the early 1980s, the building had become synonymous with the Noosa community for its fresh and cooked seafood.

Located at 185 Weyba Road, Noosaville, the site was most recently known as Seafood Conxion.

However, the building has remained unused since before the previous owners sold in September 2022.

Last year Noosa Council rejected a minor change application from the current building owners to establish a bakery citing it “did not constitute a minor change” and was “not consistent” with the planning scheme.

The property is currently listed for lease and has been described as “ready to be reborn”.

No. 185 Weyba Road, Noosaville, is currently vacant.

John Petralia from Ray White Commercial Noosa & Sunshine Coast told Sunshine Coast News interest in the well-known site was positive.

“We have received a strong number of inquiries,” he said.

“Unfortunately, a lot of them have been for uses that aren’t allowable.

“I am in discussions with an experienced operator at the moment who is interested in doing a seafood business there.”

The property was originally a house before Noosa Council approved an extension to the existing dwelling for the purpose of a fresh seafood kiosk in November 1981, with a condition prohibiting the consumption of food or drinks on the premises.

In January 1985, the council approved the installation of cooking equipment so the kiosk could sell cooked seafood, however, the same condition prohibiting the consumption of food on the premises remained.

The property is zoned medium density residential and situated between residential properties. It is located near the Noosa Arts Theatre and Aldi.
