A Sunshine Coast butcher shop can boast the title of sausage kings after enjoying the sizzling taste of success for its Aussie barbecue favourites.

Mountain Creek Meats has taken out a series of state and regional awards recognising its sausages and burger patties.

Owners Brett Harland and Greg Whiteley took over the butcher store last December and in less than 12 months have been building up award-winning success with their house-made snags.

In September the boys took out first place in the Australian Meat Industry Council’s regional Sausage King and Best Butcher Burger Competition.

They won in Traditional Australian Beef Sausage and Best Butchers Beef Burger categories.

The team then moved onto the state awards where Mountain Creek Meats won second place for both products in Queensland.

“We’ve been in business here since December last year and this is our first time entering the competition,” Mr Harland said.

“Traditional beef sausage is something that everyone consumes so we are really happy to win that prize and to get second best in the state.”

The state awards celebrated the best in retail butchery across Queensland.

For the traditional Australian beef sausage category, the entry must be made of must be made of beef and not contain any additional ingredients, such as tomato.

Meanwhile the burgers had to be made of beef with any additional ingredients evenly distributed with the mix.

Looking forward, Mr Whiteley said the team would be focusing on its ham and bacon products, both for the 2025 awards season and in the lead-up to Christmas.

“We are going to enter our ham and bacon next year,” he said.

“We have some recipes we’ve been working on since we took over in December.”

Mr Harland said Mountain Creek Meats was one of the only butchers on the Sunshine Coast to get traditional pork products for the festive season.

“We are one of the few on the Coast that make our own ham and bacon,” he said.

“Not many shops do that anymore, so it’s a great place to come for your Christmas festive feed or meal.”
