A packed house is expected at a music festival that will be held on the Sunshine Coast for the first time in four years.

About 14,000 people could attend the Big Pineapple Festival, to be staged at the iconic Big Pineapple fields at Woombye on Saturday, October 19.

The festival is set to rock, with some of Australia’s best music acts, and roll, with the inaugural Great Australian Pineapple Toss.

The likes of The Amity Affliction, Bliss n Eso, Golden Features and Peking Duk will be on show.

Event organiser Mark Pico said there would be a variety of entertainment and experiences.

“In addition to some of the nation’s best music talent, we have added new dimensions such as the pineapple toss competition and ‘world eats and beats’, which incorporates a mix of international food music and dance,” he said.

Peking Duk will be among the featured performers.

“Given what has been happening with the industry, we have been compared to the Bradbury of the festivals scene, as the last man standing, with the Winter Olympic gold medallist, Stephen Bradbury participating in the pineapple toss.

“The amount of support has kept us going as we have put the line-up together.

“The financial support of the Sunshine Coast Council and Queensland Government, through Tourism and Events Queensland and Arts Queensland has really helped.

“Given our climate and quality of our venue, we are convinced that the Sunshine Coast can be the nation’s home of live music.”

There will be plenty of colour and character at the festival.

The festival is on track to sell out again with 50 per cent of the festival-goers coming from outside the Sunshine Coast.

‘We know that Stephen Bradbury can ice skate, but can he roll a pineapple? You’ll have to come along and see,” Mr Pico said.

The return of the festival follows the re-opening of the restored Big Pineapple in June.

The final release of general admission tickets is selling fast and can be purchased here.
