A man has been charged after he allegedly held a woman against her will and assaulted another man.

It will be alleged that about 6.30pm yesterday, a 21-year-old man threatened a woman who was known to him and demanded she get into a Mazda 3 he was driving.

Police officers in an unmarked car tracked the vehicle to Nambour Connection Road near the Big Pineapple, where they successfully deployed a tyre-deflation device.

It is alleged the man then accelerated away and drove through a red light before crashing into a Toyota Camry at the intersection with Maroochydore Road.

The man allegedly fled from the Mazda 3 and ran into the northbound traffic of the Bruce Highway.

A Toyota Rav4, driven by a 64-year-old man, stopped and the 21-year-man allegedly punched the driver in the head several times before pulling him from the vehicle.

The 21-year-old man allegedly got into the vehicle and attempted to drive away, but a 52-year-old woman in the passenger seat pressed the “push button” to stop the car.

The man was unable to start the vehicle again as the driver, who had the proximity keys in his pocket, was not in the vehicle.

Police then arrested the man.

The 21-year-old Nambour man has been charged with one count of deprivation of liberty (DV offence), robbery with violence and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

He is due to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court today.
