A local council is set to get moving on a range of key projects during the second half of the financial year, after a host of jobs were completed during the first six months.

Noosa Council Mayor Clare Stewart said it was about to call for tenders on a range of initiatives, including the Peregian Beach Skate Park upgrade and a refurbishment of the toilet facilities at Noosa Heads Lions Park, while a tender was recently awarded for the renewal of Garth Prowd Bridge, on Noosa Parade.

“The project will ensure this critical asset within Noosa’s road and pedestrian network continues to serve our community well for many more years to come,” she said.

A host of pathway upgrades are also slated, including for Kauri and Elm streets at Cooroy, Cullinane and Doonella streets at Tewantin and Main Street, Kin Kin.

The plans were revealed after a range of projects were completed under the $51.3 million capital works program at the end of last year.

They included the $2.33 million Lawnville Road Bridge renewal at Black Mountain, an Arkana Drive slope stabilisation project at Noosa Heads, Noosa Leisure Centre bathroom upgrades and the Noosa Waters lock and weir renewal.

A host of roads across the shire have been resealed over the past three months, including Gibson Road at Noosaville, Olivine Street at Cooroy and Charles Street at Cooran, as part of the annual reseal program.

“So far this year we’ve carried out around $2.9 million of reseal work – more than half of the $5 million budgeted for reseal work this financial year,” Cr Stewart said.

“Meanwhile, we’ve completed more than $900,000 worth of work so far under this year’s $1.5 million heavy patching program with upgrades to a host of hinterland roads.”

Black Mountain Road and Mary River Road at Cooroy, Sister Tree Creek Road and Doctor Pages Road at Kin Kin and Binalong Road at Pinbarren are among other roads upgraded under this program.

“Our capital program is tracking well, with 33 per cent of the budget spent – or $16.9 million worth of work complete – and funds committed for a further $5.8 million worth of projects,” Cr Stewart said.

“In addition, we have high confidence in the delivery of another $26.7 million worth of projects in the balance of the financial year, bringing total expenditure to $43.6 million for 2023-24, due to large project commitments.”

Council’s 2023-24 capital program includes $51.3 million worth of projects, including those carried over from last year.

“This a huge year for our infrastructure services team,” Cr Stewart said.

“Within the team, our design staff are working on 62 projects this year, with a combined design and construction value of $18.5 million.

“In addition to the capital program we have 73 multi-year projects in various stages of completion.

“Our infrastructure services team is delivering all of this while we continue to tackle $127 million worth of Queensland Reconstruction Authority-funded recovery projects, stemming from the February 2022 Noosa floods.”
