Ben Beaden took this powerful photo looking over the Landsborough fire on Saturday night.

“I took this photo just after 7pm when driving up the range – it’s looking over the township of Landsborough from Mount Mellum,” he wrote.

“The fire was on the eastern side of Steve Irwin Way – where it is mainly forestry – though hopefully the houses on rural properties were able to be saved. It would have been extremely difficult for the firies though, as the wind was strong.

“This was taken on my phone with 0.5-second exposure – the orange is a little brighter than it was to the naked eye but it shows the scale and intensity of this particular fire, and the smoke that was blanketing the coast to the north.

“It really helps tell the story and what incredible work all the staff and volunteer rural and urban firefighters, SES and other emergencies services do around it.”
