Long, short, thick or thin – size really doesn’t matter when it comes to saucy sausage fun with a side of laughter and splash of charity.

Sausage Fest Sunshine Coast – an Aussie version of Oktoberfest – promises to be “a spicy extravaganza with a side of sausage shenanigans” on Saturday, October 14, from noon to 6pm at Coolum Beach’s Blackflag Brewing.

Attendees at the family-friendly event can expect a chilli fest like no other, seasoned with a generous serving of sausage-themed hilarity.

So, hold on to your buns as organisers offer an afternoon sprinkled with some of the wurst puns and the tastiest sausages in town, washed down with lashings of chilli sauce, as well as Blackflag craft beers and beverages.

The festival, fully licensed and with a happy hour boasting $5 drinks from 4-6pm, will offer a variety of meats and more than 100 chilli sauces for sampling and shopping.

Link up with your mates and dare them to sample the spicy selections.

Prepare for chilli sauce and sausage tray raffles, sausage throwing and catching games, and the chance to wander around artisan stalls to stock up for the barbecue season.

For those looking to take their tastebuds on a flavour rollercoaster, the festival presents an afternoon of competitions for adults and kids alike.

Prizes are up for grabs, along with serious bragging rights, for the Chilli Chip Champion, Hot Dog Hero and the men’s wet T-shirt contest winner.

Kids can also try to avoid the brain freeze in the icy pole competition.

“Think of it as your favourite sizzles, hot dogs and pepperoni pizza in a cone kind of day, spiced up with artisan chilli sauces, washed down with brilliant Blackflag offerings all day,” said Jase O’Connor, the event organiser behind this meaty masterpiece.

“We’re not just serving sausages, we’re serving up a spice-fuelled legacy that supports a noble cause.

“It’s the wurst-while event of the year.”
