An experienced aviation expert is expected to help lift one of the country’s fastest-growing airports to new heights.

Carl Jones has been appointed the head of aviation development at Sunshine Coast Airport.

Mr Jones is an aviation executive with more than 20 years of airport management, government and commercial experience working with leading airports around the world.

He has specialised in air service development, hub development, strategic partnerships, destination marketing and commercial negotiations in aviation commercial roles at Melbourne, Vancouver and Brisbane International Airports.

Mr Jones said he was eager to make an impact at SCA.

“I am excited to join the Agilis Airports Group and Sunshine Coast Airport management team to build on the already impressive growth that has occurred recently,” he said.

“I know from previous experience how integral a strong team approach is to the success of air service development and I look forward to working with airline, government and industry partners to help shape and grow our aviation business.”

Carl Jones was looking forward to growing the aviation business on the Sunshine Coast.

Sunshine Coast Airport general manager aviation and commercial Scott Norris welcomed Carl and said his knowledge and experience would help SCA reach new heights.

“The experience Carl has demonstrated over many years in the industry will greatly benefit Sunshine Coast Airport as we continue to grow and develop,” he said.

“During his career, Carl has overseen record breaking aviation growth projects at multiple airports, resulting in new destinations and new airlines, while helping grow and sustain existing airline partners across both domestic and international networks.

“Carl’s experience and knowledge working with existing and new airlines, government, and industry partners will help build our aviation business.

“I want to welcome Carl to the team, and we look forward to having him start with us in July.”

Mr Jones will also have oversight of aviation development at Coffs Harbour Airport as part of the Agilis Airports Group and will join the team on July 4.
