An event that celebrates the ‘creative spirit of the hinterland’ is set to be boosted by funding that will be shared among 100 local community groups.

The Rangebow Festival organisers will receive a portion of almost $600,000 through Sunshine Coast Council’s Major Grants round.

Major Grant recipient and registered charity Range of Life Pty Ltd received $10,000 towards this year’s festival, a four-day arts and culture event conducted at multiple sites across the hinterland communities of Mapleton, Flaxton, Montville and Maleny from August 10-13.

Festival director Wayne Parcell said the event celebrated the creative life and spirit of the Blackall Range communities.

“The world-class program includes 30 events delivered in collaboration with local community groups, artisans, businesses, performers and schools,” he said.

“The festival enables a wide variety of rich experiences, including Indigenous food and culture, theatre, opera in a chapel, classical and modern music, and a family dance party integrating values of diversity, inclusion, sustainability and reconciliation through education, entertainment, engagement, dialogue and creative activities.

“Tickets for all events are selling fast, especially the world premiere performances of IAGO and Juggling – see them before they go to Broadway.”

The Rangebow Festival will be held at multiple sites on the range.

Community Portfolio Councillor David Law congratulated all grants recipients.

“Mooloolaba’s Multicultural Moon Festival is back again in September this year, the amenities block at Gheerulla Hall will be refurbished and Connect Rugby League will purchase training and playing equipment to encourage all abilities,” he said.

The Rotary Club of Caloundra Inc will receive $5000 towards event costs to facilitate the remembrance of the 268 lives lost when hospital ship AHS Centaur was torpedoed by a Japanese submarine on May 14, 1943. It was sunk while on its way to render assistance to Australian troops based in New Guinea.

Coolum Business and Tourism Incorporated will receive $7500 to deliver a 12-week program to reduce single-use plastic packaging within local tourism, hospitality and retail businesses, and empower lasting changes towards a circular economy.

The Mooloolaba Moon Festival will benefit from funding.

SunnyKids will receive $15,000 as a contribution to deliver two programs over 12 months to help break the domestic and family violence cycle.

Food and Agribusiness Network Limited will receive $12,000 to contribute towards a region wide research project to map the Sunshine Coast food and agribusiness ecosystem to work towards enabling the sharing of distribution, purchasing of packaging and infrastructure.

“I’m looking forward to seeing many of these projects come to life,” Cr Law said.

“The range of events, projects and activities receiving funding is testament to the vibrant and diverse region we live in.
