New wharf needed for cruise ships?
In regard to the cruising windfall article of the 01/12/2023, it has to be mentioned that, in the past, a number of cruise ship visiting Mooloolaba have not been able to drop anchor and/or tender boats due to adverse weather conditions and/or wave swells at Mooloolaba.
It is not time that the Sunshine Coast Council and all interested parties came together to ascertain if the Coast should have a permanently constructed cruise ship wharf for these smaller international cruise ships.
Not only would a permanent wharf benefit the ship Guests (passengers), ship crew, local businesses and the local communities, near and far, it would put a stop to cruise ships not being able to anchor offshore of Mooloolaba due to unsatisfactory ocean conditions.
I have just returned from a Queensland cruise which departed Brisbane and called in at Airlie Beach, Yorkies Knob (Cairns) and return to Brisbane.
It was a great pity, and I believe an oversight, that the cruise ship did not have Mooloolaba as a port of call, either going up or down the coast, but maybe Mooloolaba not having a dedicated cruise wharf the cruise company was not going to risk the chance that their tenders would not be able to ferry the ship Guests to land due to local, Mooloolaba, ocean swells.
For the smaller size cruise ship companies like those mentioned in the article, Mooloolaba and the Sunshine Coast could and should be placed permanently on their Queensland cruise itineraries and I believe that this could be achieved if Mooloolaba or another suitable spot along the Sunshine Coast had a cruise ship wharf.

Sunshine Parking Lot (Highway)
The current highway to and from the Sunshine Coast is a joke.
Allowing easier access via Aura will just increase the problems.
This problem has been increasing over the last decade. Recently it took me two hours to drive from Petrie to Buderim.
This is not an isolated incident and will only get worse.
