The Sunshine Coast’s most historic and significant buildings will be open for the public to explore, during a special two-day event.
The Sunshine Coast Open House will allow people a rare opportunity to tour a remarkable range of architecturally diverse, sustainable and time-honoured buildings across the region.
The event was officially launched at the University of the Sunshine Coast Art Gallery on Tuesday, by Sunshine Coast Open House 2022 Ambassador and Queensland Government Architect Leah Lang.
Visitors will be able to discover long-kept secrets behind some of the region’s most intriguing buildings, such as the heritage-listed Landsborough Museum and Koongalba, the newly-renovated Eumundi Museum, mid-century Geddes House and Wilson Beach House, contemporary Black House and Paperbark Pod, and the Eumundi School of Arts Hall, thanks to many celebrated architects and informed volunteers holding special guided tours.
Sunshine Coast Open House Committee Chair Lindy Atkin said 28 buildings would open, and guided and self-guided tours would be offered, with the aim of encouraging the public to explore and engage with the region’s built environment.
“This is the one weekend each year when locals and visitors can enjoy rare access to our region’s buildings and have the opportunity to meet the people, architects, designers, planners, engineers, and historians whose contributions make the Sunshine Coast such a special and unique place,” Ms Atkin said.
“Sunshine Coast Open House prides itself on showcasing the rich architectural diversity of the region and provides a unique opportunity for people passionate about the coast to explore and discover its inspiring architecture and cultural heritage.”
Sunshine Coast Council is one of the Founding Partners of Sunshine Coast Open House and a Principal Partner in this year’s program through its Arts + Heritage Levy.
