The Sunshine Coast’s next generation of surfers starred in the opening event of the Rip Curl GromSearch Series at Coolum Beach.

Three of the six winners and 13 of the 24 finalists were locals in the competition for under-12s, under-14s and under-16s.

Noosa’s Lilliana Bowrey, Sunshine Beach’s Eliza Richardson and Moffat Beach’s Hunter Andersson shined in punchy 1m waves.

The top three surfers in each division earned trips to URBNSURF wave pool in Melbourne, for the Rip Curl GromSearch National Finals.
