More than 200 families gathered at Village Green, Palmview, to celebrate the official opening of Village Green Park with a Surf and Turf themed fun day.

Local families, friends and neighbours relaxed under beach umbrellas while enjoying a barbecue lunch, iced tea and ice cream treats.

The free community event was held by residential developer, Peet, to mark the opening of the new park.

The occasion included a variety of activities, including live music from Sunshine Coast Musician Cory Carlyon, interactive games, a sand craft station and a photo booth competition.

Sippy Downs’ Marissa Hoeksima said her family was excited about the new park.

“It’s a really cool park and the kids love it here,” she said.

“It’s different than other parks and easy to get to. We brought our bikes down here. It’s pretty awesome for the kids.”

Inspired by the Sunshine Coast’s hinterland ranges, the park features an origami-style climbing structure that represents the mountainous and undulating shapes that form the background of Village Green.

Peet Limited CEO and Managing Director, Brendan Gore, said Peet was thrilled to bring the  community together for the first time in the heart of Village Green.

“Over the past year, Village Green has seen an increase of buyer interest as people look for a lifestyle change that gives them a community they can be part of, while staying true to the appeal of the Sunshine Coast.

“As the community continues to grow, this park will become a hub for bringing family and friends together to reset, relax and recharge,” he said.

A free community event was held to mark the opening of the new park in Palmview.

The Sunshine Coast’s newest 1.5-hectare park also features a playground, fitness and exercise area for all ages, shared walkways and bicycle paths, water fountains, shaded areas, and plenty of open space.

Village Green is a 1,180-home master-planned community in Palmview. It’s beside 20 hectares of natural habitat, and is near shopping, dining, entertainment, education, and healthcare facilities.
