Work starts later this month to resurface three kilometres of the Sunshine Motorway from the Mooloolah River at Minyama to the Mooloolaba Road off-ramp, Buderim.

About 500 metres of Kawana Way will also be resurfaced in June as part of the $5 million project.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the works were part of the Palaszczuk Government’s broader road maintenance program.

“About 50,000 motorists travel this section of the Sunshine Motorway each day,” Mr Bailey said.

“Major upgrades like the ones we’re delivering on the Bruce Highway are needed to support the Coast’s growing population, but maintenance projects like these are just as important in terms of improving driving conditions for local motorists.

“Improving the ageing road surface also reduces costs associated with the regular maintenance, and creates local jobs too.”

Mr Bailey said the Sunshine Motorway works were expected to take about three months to complete, weather and construction conditions permitting.

“These works will resurface the motorway, as well as several on and off-ramps,” he said.

“The works of Kawana Way will start in June and focus on either side of the Brightwater Boulevard (West) roundabout.

“We expect they will take about three weeks to complete, weather and construction conditions permitting.

Work on the Sunshine Motorway and Kawana Way will be carried out at night, including occasional weekend work if required.

In an effort to reduce impacts to nearby businesses, residents and motorists, works on the Sunshine Motorway will be undertaken outside of school holiday periods.

Signs will advise of changed traffic conditions and traffic controllers will be on site to guide motorists.”

Mr Bailey said every effort would be made to keep disruption and noise to a minimum.

“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for your patience and cooperation during these works,” he said.

Single-lane closures, detours, traffic controllers, reduced speed limits and road signs will be in place to ensure the safety of road workers and motorists.
