Vinnies shops on the Sunshine Coast will hold a 50% off everything sale on Friday and Saturday, April 16-17, to raise much-needed funds for Queenslanders struggling with COVID-19 financial crisis.

The guilt-free shopping sale of the year is a first ever for the charity retailer, offering half-price unique fashion finds, antiques and collectables, to raise funds for vital services for vulnerable Queenslanders.

Vinnies Queensland General Manager of Operations Drew Eide said the state-wide rental shortage and reduction of JobSeeker payments meant more support was needed to fund vital emergency assistance, poverty, and housing and homelessness support.

“You can do your part to help our community’s most vulnerable simply by picking up a half-price bargain at any shop on the Sunshine Coast this Friday and Saturday,” he said.

“Vinnies shops are home to a treasure trove of hidden gems, and with a little patience and a keen eye, you never know what you might find.

“Just recently a Vinnies shop had a shopper stumble across some designer Manolo Blahnik heels, worth more than $2000, that she found for just $35.”

Geneva Vanderzeil bought a skirt from Vinnies 15 years ago which she has taken around the world.

Brisbane blogger Geneva Vanderzeil, who runs the popular fashion, design and DIY website Collective Gen, says second-hand stores like Vinnies are a great place to find an unexpected hidden treasure.

“I bought this one skirt from Vinnies 15 years ago that’s been with me all around the world, from London to Paris to Hong Kong,” she said.

“I love going second-hand shopping and try to think of creative uses for a piece of a clothing or furniture and imagine how it might look in a different context or with some minor tweaks.
