Plans for a new Catholic college that will eventually accommodate 1500 students in the fast-growing Aura estate have taken some big steps forward.

Brisbane Catholic Education told sunshinecoastnews.com.au that a site had been settled on for the school, which would eventually cater for students from Prep to Year 12.

“BCE continues to take positive steps towards a new school in Aura on the Sunshine Coast,” a spokesperson said.

“Architects have been appointed as master-planning continues for the school.

“The commencement year will be finalised once necessary planning and funding approvals have been received.’’

Architectus, which in association with HDR designed the Sunshine Coast University Hospital for Queensland Health, has been engaged for the project, which will sit on an eight-hectare parcel.

BCE said that up to 150 teaching and non-teaching staff would be required once the college was at full capacity.

It has identified the Sunshine Coast as one of the fastest-growing areas in Australia and believes families moving to Aura will be seeking high quality, values-based education for their children.

The new Catholic college will complement Aura’s growing range of education and learning facilities.

These include Goodstart Early Learning Baringa and Baringa State Primary School – a revolutionary state primary school with a focus on science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).

The $127.5 million Baringa State Secondary College was built from scratch in the burgeoning estate, while there are also plans for a future urban university located within the Aura city centre.

Another primary school is due for construction in Caloundra South in 2022.

Stockland said that upon completion, Aura was set to become a hub for educational excellence with up to 20 educational and learning centres proposed, including:
●    Five public primary schools
●    Two public high schools
●    Up to four private schools
●    Eight early learning centres
●    One urban university
