After months with nowhere to meet, Beerwah Writers Group now has a temporary home for lovers of words to gather and share their work.
Members travel from Maleny, Beerwah, Glasshouse Mountains, Caloundra, Buderim and Brisbane and new writers are always welcome.
Pre-COVID the group met at the Beerwah Library, but with social distancing numbers restricting their fortnightly meetings, it has since been forced to convene at the pub.
Beerwah Writers Group’s Patty Beecham said thanks to the team at Celebrate Glasshouse Country, she had now secured a meeting room at The Hub on Sportsground Drive.
The group began in 2006 after a then-local couple wanted to share their writing experiences with like-minded people.
“We are an active group of local amateur and professional writers who meet to discuss aspects of writing and publishing,” Ms Beecham said.
“Members usually read out their latest writings, kept to approximately 300 to 500 words. This can be prose, poetry (or) an article.
“Several members have published their work and their books are available for sale to the public.”
Ms Beecham said regular guest speakers provided various insights into the writing industry and members could have their work critiqued.
Beerwah Writers Group is also set to release a compilation of short stories later in the year.
“This year we are once again publishing our collection of short stories and poetry.
“If you are keen to write but not sure of where to start, please join us at the next meeting.
“There’s lots to discuss … we can’t wait to see you all and hear your writings.”
The group meets on the second and fourth Fridays of the month with a gold coin donation upon entry to help cover the cost of morning tea.
