Caloundra’s hidden treasure

by Rodger Hall
March 23, 2007

BEAUTIFUL Dicky Beach is renown as an unspoilt stretch of sun-drenched white sand and clean surf breaks. An added attraction is the $1.5 renovation at the local surf club that blends perfectly with the area’s relaxed beach village mood.
The Dicky Beach SLSC motto of ‘Caloundra’s hidden treasure’ rings true for visitors and locals seeking family dining that includes tasty food in comfortable air-conditioned surroundings. Patrons at the Wreck Restaurant can gaze at the blue waters of the Pacific Ocean from inside, or out on the covered deck.
Mouth-watering seafood and steaks with a seasonal twist are the chef’s speciality.
The upstairs dining and entertainment areas have lift access, and cater for 175-seated guests.
Visitors from 15klm outside the area can simply sign themselves into the club with a driver’s licence required as proof of residence. Many sporting clubs also have reciprocal membership.
Caloundra City Council’s Streetscape Program nearby has created a vibrant shopping strip with alfresco dining, and pedestrian access to parklands, playground and the patrolled beach.
The remains of the SS Dicky, washed ashore onto Dicky Beach in 1893 during a cyclone, are a popular photo experience on the beach.
Dicky Beach Surf Life Saving Club is at 1A Coochin Street , Phone (07) 5491 6078, or visit www.dickybeachsurfclub.com
