Council crews lend a hand

by Sunshine Coast Regional Council
November 19, 2008
SUNSHINE Coast Council has dispatched professional trade crews to Brisbane today following an urgent request for help from Brisbane City Council.

Following the severe storms, that struck Brisbane on Sunday evening, Brisbane City Council placed a call to neighbouring councils and emergency services for assistance.

Sunshine Coast Council regional director for infrastructure services, Andrew Ryan said that while offers of help had flooded in to Brisbane City Council, they were still short of specialised services and machinery.

“Having taken an inventory of the staff, crews, and machinery available on the Sunshine Coast, teams of arborists and chippers were sent to Brisbane this morning,” Mr Ryan said.

“We have also sent several trucks, bobcats, chainsaws, and loaders to help with the post-storm clean up.

“Crews and machinery were mainly dispatched from the Caloundra and Maroochy areas, leaving resources at Tewantin to cope with any Sunshine Coast emergencies.

“It’s important to rally round in these circumstances; we certainly hope that our council neighbours would do the same for us.”
