Discover a new world on water

by Sunshine Coast Regional Council
October 08, 2008
FIND out more about the Maroochy River Trail at a free community information evening and be ready to discover a new world on water.

The community information evening will be held at 6.30pm on Tuesday 7 October at the Maroochy Multi-Sports Complex, Fishermans Road, Maroochydore.

Council in partnership with the Queensland State Government is developing a canoe trail along the Maroochy River.

Planning and design of the 28km trail that extends from Cotton Tree up to and including a portion of the south and north Maroochy River near Yandina, has already commenced with infrastructure and landscape improvements planned to start in October 2008.

The Maroochy River Trail will provide paddlers of all skill levels with a rewarding way to connect with the beauty of the river, its history, plants and animals while keeping fit in the great outdoors.

Trail developments proposed include a designated trail head at Dunethin Lake featuring a pontoon / jetty compliant to Australian Standards offering river access to paddlers including those with a disability; improved landscaping and parking.

Proposed signage and a website will provide wide-ranging information to help paddlers safely plan their trip and to interpret the historic and natural features of the trail.

The Maroochy River Trail will increase local and visitor awareness of the beauty and value of the Maroochy River to the Sunshine Coast and support eco-tourism in the regional economy.

The Maroochy River Trail is part of the Strategy for Regional Trails in South East Queensland and is funded by a $500,000 grant from the Queensland State Government.
