WITH father’s day falling in this week it seemed like an appropriate moment to celebrate the challenges and successes that I see fathers bring to my coaching practice.

Firstly, I would also like to acknowledge the courage and commitment in which many Dad’s are learning and accepting roles which are new to their generation.

One of the greatest challenges I see many fathers facing is clarity on how to engage fully and take responsibility as a parent, and more specifically their role as a father.

While there’s an expectation for us Dad’s to be more involved as parents than previous generations, exactly how much and in what way often remains a little murky.

As a result of this confusion it’s easy to slide into apathy, instead of taking responsibility as a parent we become our partner’s “assistant” waiting to be nagged into action. Understandably this isn’t much fun for anyone.

The key to turning this situation around is accepting that as Fathers we have an essential role in ensuring our kids grow into confident and respectful adults.

If you’re ready to accept this responsibility grab a pen or pencil and ask yourself the following questions and jot down your answers.

1) In what ways do I need to engage more as a Father.
2) At what times times of the day/week do I need to engage more as a Father.
3) What steps do I need to take to enjoy implementing the above.
