Taking Photos on the First Day of School

by Your Photographer
January 10, 2008

THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL of school is a big event in any child’s life. In all the excitement, emotion and rush, here are a few tips to help you capture the moment to treasure for years to come.

Have some trial runs a few days before the actual first day of school. “It can help take the pressure off for perfect photos on the actual day especially in the case of rain, tears or running late.” says Anne-Marie Moxham of Your Photographer.

Take some photos without the hat on too. It is a very important part of the uniform for children to have a wide brimmed hat, but in photos they can shade the face and hide the big smile and excitement.

Take a few photos next to something that can easily date the photo, for example beside the family car. When your family looks back at the photos in twenty years time it will be fun to see the type of cars we all drove on that special day to school.

A fun way to show your child’s growth is to take a photo next to something that shows their height, for example your garden fence, front door, letter box, even Dad! “This makes for a great pictorial story of your child’s school years as every year you can see how much they have grown” says Anne-Marie Moxham of Your Photographer.

And remember the first day does not need to be the only day for photos, remember key school events throughout the year such as sports days, discos, award’s night and field trips.
